College Crest

Our Beloved Crest

The deeply-cherished San Sisto College Crest was created by Irish Dominican nuns who immigrated to Australia in 1867 to establish the first convent of the Order in this country. It is arguably one of the most beautiful crests ever devised and is replete with highly significant motifs of the Dominican charism, beginning with its black and white colour.  For more than 800 years, Dominicans have worn black and white habits to symbolise purity and contrition.

The following is adapted from an account given by the Dominican Sisters of Eastern Australia and the Solomon Islands: Dominican Sisters | Our Congregation
